Joshua Dawson

Originally from Federal Way, Washington, Joshua is a first-year medical student at Columbia Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons who is passionate about promoting health equity. After earning his B.S. in Cellular Biology from the University of Washington in 2018, Joshua conducted basic and clinical diabetes-related research at the NIH as a National Academy Enrichment Program health disparities fellow. Seeking to innovate ways to advance the trainee experience at NIH, Joshua has served as Co-Chair of the Network of African Americans and is a founding member of NIDDK TREaDS (Trainees Recognizing Excellence and Diversity in Science) seminar series. At VP&S, Joshua is in the Brown Scholars primary care program and First-Generation & Low-Income Partnership. He also serves as the 2022 BALSO (Black and Latino Student Organization) President and seeks to enhance the student experience as a Student Representative on the Dean’s Advisory Council. In his free time, you can find Joshua at Free Weight Club, a NYC museum, an R&B concert, or playing basketball with his classmates at 50 Haven.
